Short Art story :
About the photographer-Henri Cartier Bresson
How much do you know about Henri Cartier-Bresson, one of the greatest and most significant photographer in the 20 century?
It was the photographic exhibition of Henri Cartier Bresson in Taipei fine art museum in 2020 allowed me to step into the diverse and distinctive world of photography and his legendary life.
I still remembered how impressed I gained from those amazing and powerful pictures and it’s sophisticate composition. He had traveled through lots of continents and countries throughout his entire life, no matter big or small, affluent or impoverished, democratic or autocratic.
He saw through the world by the lens and camera with his intelligence and unique sense of humor and aesthetic. His overwhelming passion and consistent pursuit toward what he loved made not only himself but his works outstanding and influential to the following generation.
It’s my pleasure to be able to meet the autobiography of Bressson, wrote by journalist, Pierre Assouline who got the mere chance to have a private time to interview with the master and his spectacular life. It’s interesting to find there are so many attractive plots and rebellious spirit within Bressson’s mind. He was the fan of surrealism but didn’t completely act like an pure surrealist but more like an productive and realistic news photographer with artistic mind.
Intriguingly, before making up his mind to be a photographer, he actually got pretty well education in art school, which made him form an fundamental and steady basis in the composition. Besides, his enthusiasm toward the study of math and geometry of the Cubism was another reason why he became so distinguished and brilliant in his later photographic life.
